Who We Are
Welcome to the BookScore and thank you for your visit.
The BookScore was born out of a love for books and for reading. Started by Sam Griswold and Chris Laursen, and based in Brooklyn, New York, our aim is to provide you—the reader—with as much information as possible on any given book as well as helping you uncover new books and authors while keeping you connected and up to date on all the goings on in the literary universe.
Scores
The BookScore is a review aggregator site. For each book we score, we start by compiling all the reviews of that book from our sources, using only reviews that are available as free content to readers. We then carefully read each review, taking into account the overall tone as well as the content. Each individual review is then given a score out of 10, based entirely on our own opinion—the numbers themselves have nothing to do with the authors of the reviews. Once every review has been scored, the scores are averaged—with certain sources receiving greater weight—and a composite score out of 10 is reached for each book. In order for a book to be scored it must have a minimum of five reviews from our sources. Books that do not meet this minimum may be featured in the blog section with links provided to reviews.
Blog
The blog section is a forum to discuss reviews and scores, as well as news about the book industry, upcoming publications, interviews with authors and more. Here we will feature early reviews of books that have just hit the shelves, provide links to articles and other writing online and make mention and link to reviews of books that have caught our eye, but have not been reviewed by enough sources to be scored. We hope you will join us in this discussion!
