An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States

In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.

Great to hear about the journey of a former First Lady. Skip the politics and absorb the account of Michelle Obama's journey. One can learn much from this book if read with the right eyes and heart. IGNORE THE 1 STAR REVIEWS... POLITICAL JUNKIES DOING WHAT THEY DO BEST. HIGH ON OPINION HOOTING FROM THEIR COMFY AMERICAN LOCATIONS, FEW OF THEM HAVE BEEN TO THE DARKEST LOCATIONS OF PLANET 🪖🇺🇸

It was great to read her life and journey to becoming the first Black First Lady of the USA. Her parents instilling in her she could do anything, her love for family, and sacrifice of her career for a bigger cause makes me love her more.

Amazing story of overcoming and I hope this book inspires younger generations to see that you don’t have to look a certain way to be a great leader in this country and to ultimately bring people together. Everyone is different but that’s what makes us all unique and able to provide different perspectives I wish we all would embrace this. Thanks Michelle Obama for writing your truth and just being you as always.
  • She could have done better

She so much famous quotes from the time in the White House and yet when she decides to write a book it’s empty, pointless and shallow
  • An Outstanding Story from a Down to earth woman

    By Freddie B Real
First Lady Michelle Obama’s Becoming touches me profoundly. I’m astounded my how she shares intimate moments from a public life with a fantastic, warm grace. As another African American woman, I loved the intelligence and patience she discovered within herself even when she, her daughters or husband faced the simple challenge of trying to do for others because others have done for them. I wish The First Black family all the love their hearts can hold. This message comes from a Texas gal to a South Side chick.
