Description

A #1 New York Times bestseller!

Sarah J. Maas's brand-new CRESCENT CITY series begins with House of Earth and Blood: the story of half-Fae and half-human Bryce Quinlan as she seeks revenge in a contemporary fantasy world of magic, danger, and searing romance.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life-working hard all day and partying all night-until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She'll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose-to assassinate his boss's enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he's offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City's underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion-one that could set them both free, if they'd only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom-and the power of love.

Honestly this book was the definition of whiplash. The out of no where plots or revelations were so sudden and entertaining I finish this book in two days. I needed the answers. I’ve read all of Sarah J. Maas books and every book just get better and better. If you’re in to always been in your toes with questions then this book is perfect. The ending is perfect and I’m so excited to read the next book, I even preordered the new on expected to come out in January.

While there were definitely some parts of this book that had me happy and or crying, I’m not so sure this comes close to how good her other series are. I’m not sure how Bryce did not collapse from exhaustion a single time throughout the book because she took multiple emotional or physical hits each chapter. And unfortunately- bc I really do love SJM- the whole book came off as rather rushed and unrealistic in the number of miracles that happened throughout. That being said- I’m still going to read the second book lol 😂 .

Convoluted until 400-500 pages into. Then it fell into her normal writing style. Wouldn’t even call it world building just lots and lots of detail that muddled the first half of the book. Still absolutely hooked by the end as I feel with all Maas series
  • Slow start but keep reading

I absolutely loved this book, obsessed with it!!!! But I will say it took me a couple hundred pages to really get into it, and without a friends persistence about how good it was, I might’ve put it down. So good though, 12/10… so if anyone else is like me and ADD about story lines, just keep reading IT IS SO WORTH IT

I rarely write reviews, but I really want to write one for this book. I actually read it twice and enjoyed it possibly more the second time. There are so many reasons I like this book, too many to note. But to sum it, for me, it’s all about loyalty, friendship, and the truly extraordinary power of love., that transcends time and space.

All the bad reviews are saying that the book is slow to start or boring. I do not share this opinion. Like any first book of a series, there is a lot of world building, character building, and amazing detail in the beginning of the book to set the story. This book, and the rest of the series, wouldn’t be as good without such detail. This book is AMAZING! If the bad reviews are swaying you, don’t listen to them!

Just read it. It’s low flame though. Hopefully that will change in book 2.
