Doing well with money isn’t necessarily about what you know. It’s about how you behave. And behavior is hard to teach, even to really smart people. Money—investing, personal finance, and business decisions—is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money and teaches you how to make better sense of one of life’s most important topics.

This book was great. At first, I found the book to be a bit too intuitive, so much so that it felt unnecessary to read if you had a good understanding of your financial goals and status. However, the information throughout the book begins to compound in ways that I never would have guessed. There are a ton of lessons in this book that you can apply to your life, and they aren’t necessarily exclusive to finance. I would recommend this book to anyone who is invested in both financial and personal growth. My only main gripe is that the title is a bit misleading. The “psychology” aspect of this book didn’t really have a scientific relation, which was initially my interest. The insight of the book has no connection to the field, so don’t expect it to.
